“I saw an advertisement for Lurahammaren on Facebook, clicked on it, and that was basically it. I spoke with my bank advisor and the real estate agent, and bought almost immediately. It happened really quickly,” says Kevin Tran. The 26-year-old has purchased his first home in the Lurahammaren housing project – two 6-story apartment buildings located between Lurahammaren and Gamleveien, where 19 of 35 apartments have already been sold. His best tips: patience and savings.
Lura or Nothing
For the self-proclaimed “Lura boy,” living in Lura was never a question.
“It was Lura or nothing. I’m a trained carpenter with a permanent job, and I’ve been comfortable living at home until now, but I felt it was time to find my own place. Still, there was never any doubt. Lura is my home. And here I have everything I need,” says Kevin. He mentions the location near Gandsfjorden, proximity to friends and family, hiking areas, ease of getting around, and short distances to Forus and downtown areas both north and south.
Everything You Need
As Kevin says, in Lura and Lurahammaren you really get everything you need. This is also Kevin’s best advice:
“If I were to recommend anything to help you enter the housing market, it would be to save for a down payment early. Because if you have enough equity, things usually work out in the end.” Kevin also points out that patience is important when buying property.
“Even though the purchase itself happened very quickly for me, there’s still a waiting period before I can move in. So it’s simply a matter of being patient and accepting that things take time. For example, I’m using this time to save for furniture purchases,” he explains.
We congratulate Kevin on his first home purchase at Lurahammaren and hope he thrives!
Modern Living with Natural Surroundings
Fresh sea air, green surroundings, short distance to beaches and waterfront, along with modern amenities in three comfortable apartment types: 1-room, 2-room, and 3-room. And with balconies for all apartments, you also secure your own small outdoor space for afternoon sun.
“As a carpenter, I could renovate things myself, but I realized I wasn’t quite in the mood for that right now. I wanted to buy something that was finished, where I can come and relax after work, and then make adjustments later if I want to,” says Kevin.
“I actually hadn’t been actively looking. I had only been to one viewing that I decided wasn’t for me, before I saw Lurahammaren. Lurahammaren had everything I wanted, and at a very reasonable price. And I avoided bidding wars since it’s a fixed price,” he explains further. Kevin has purchased a 2-room apartment for 3.8 million, with possession scheduled for Christmas 2026.
The First Home
It can be both scary and difficult for young first-time buyers to enter the housing market. Especially when we read about rising housing prices and high competition. But from 2025, the equity requirement has now been changed to 10%, which can make it somewhat easier to save up for a down payment.
“The home purchase happened in a flash.”
